Ultra Low Volume spraying is conducted from late April to early November in the town of Colusa and surrounding areas within the Districts boundies. The use of truck mounted ULV fogging machines, using only EPA registered products, is conducted usually in the evening, to night time hours to take advantage of the temperature inversion, to properly control mosquito populations. The District monitors weather conditions during these spray hours to make sure their efforts are most effective.

The District provides Mosquito Fish to the public that reside within the the Districts boundaries only. Fish should be available from the end of April to the first week of October. Please call the District to check on availability.

District personnel are resposible for conducting mosquito surveillance daily, and to monitor mosquito borne diseases by trapping and collecting mosquito pools, and taking blood samples from the Districts sentinnel chicken flock. Mosquito pools and blood samples are sent to local labs to determine virus and/or disease presence.

District personnel are out daily monitoring mosquito populations, to determine the best management practice (BMP) to reduce the mosquito populations to low levels. The types of control methods include, biological control, source reduction and chemical control. Personnel determine which method to reduce the mosquito populations, to keep the threat of mosquito borne disease and nuisance to the people of their District to low levels.
